My Registration

1.    What is the registration process?

The registration process on iProbook is made up of several stages, first creating a user account, and then saving basic information in your profile.

Step 1:
First enter in the login data which are necessary for creating your user account. Obligatory fields are marked with a star * and must be filled in during registration. All data marked with is treated as confidential. You decide who may see this information. iProbook will not release these details to third parties at any time.

Step 2:
Now you can enter your business details (company, position) for your profile. Please make sure that this information is correct, as it will be saved to your profile and posted on iProbook as soon as you have completed registration.

Step 3:
In this step a confirmation email is sent to the email account you indicated. This contains a link you should click to confirm your emails address. Now you've successfully registered. If you were invited to join iProbook by another iProbook member, then only the first two steps apply to you.

2.    I have forgotten my login data - what can I do?

If you forget your login data, simply click on "Forgot your login data?" under the login area on the start page. After you enter your email address (or your username), we'll send you a link to a password reset page, which you can use to create a new password. After that, you can immediately log in to the site.

My Profile

3.    How can I edit details of my professional experience?

To change the business experience listed in your profile, just click on the "edit" button to the right of every line. You can edit the size of your company, change your status and position, or give more information about what you do at work. If you do not indicate how long you were employed, your job history will not be shown chronologically, but rather in the order in which you entered the information.
If you would like to add information, you can do so by clicking the button "Add entry". Don't forget to save your changes before changing pages. We recommend that you fill out this information in as much detail as possible. This will increase the quality of your profile, thereby increasing your chances of being found.

4.    Why do I benefit from uploading a picture of myself?

Profiles with a picture are viewed more often on average as profiles without a picture. Your photo is your "calling card" on iProbook. You should therefore be easily recognizable in the photo. It creates an immediate level of trust with other members because they can see at a glance who they are dealing with.

Your photo needs to be a portrait photo of at least 140 x 185 pixels in size, and in a graphic file format (such as JPG, PNG, or GIF). The maximum file size is 250 KB.

5.    How can I change my privacy settings?

You are in full control over how much information about you is seen by others on iProbook. If you would like to make changes to your privacy settings, go to the Settings and click on My privacy settings. Then click on "Edit", and select or deselect options by clicking on the checkbox. Here you can decide

  • whether your profile is visible to non-members
  • whether your profile can be found by search engines
  • whether your articles and comments in groups can be found by search engines and RSS feeds
  • whether you would like to be introduced in the weekly newsletter as a potential contact
  • which members are permitted to send you messages and make entries in your guestbook
  • which members can view your contact list
  • which information and changes regarding you may be displayed in the "What's new in my network" box

When you sign up for iProbook, all settings are set to 'visible to all' by default. By limiting your visibility, you will also limit the number of people who view your profile, which may decrease the likelihood of being contacted by other iProbook members.
Please keep in mind: If you want to change the information you share with a specific contact, just click on that person's profile and then on the button "Edit shared personal info" or click on the checkbox "Show shared personal info" in the upper right hand corner of your Address Book. If you make changes, be sure to save them before going to another page.

6.    How can I add or change qualifications on my profile?

You can enter individual professional qualifications you may have in your profile, under "Educational background". Just click on the "Edit" button underneath "Qualifications". Please enter each qualification separately. If you wish to enter another qualification, just click on the plus sign. By entering each qualification separately, you make it easier for other iProbook members to find your profile.

Here are some sample qualifications: Certified public accountant (1997); System Administrator (MCSA, MCSE)

7.    How can I invite people to join iProbook?

A good way to systematically expand your network is to recommend iProbook to others! We offer various different options here for inviting people to your network:
  • On the right-hand side of your start page you will find a box which enables you to recommend iProbook both quickly and simply. All you need to do is enter a person's first and last names, and email address, and you can then send an invitation straight away. By clicking on "Preview" you also have the option of editing the message before sending it.
  • If you are a moderator you can also invite people directly to your group! Simply click on the invitation link to the group or select a group from the οΏ½Invite to the following group's menu when editing the invitation message.
  • To make this process even simpler, you can also make use of the iProbook Plug-in with which you can compare your address books. Having compared the addresses you have saved in your Outlook or Notes with iProbook, you can then invite people from your external address book.

The Invite tab in your address book also gives you the option of importing contact addresses from Outlook, Google Mail, AOL and many other email providers. This generates a list of all the email addresses found in the address book so that you can then easily identify which non-members you can invite to iProbook.
iProbook guarantees that it will only save the data in your address books for the purposes of a one-time comparison, and will delete this data once this process is complete. iProbook constantly applies the latest data protection and encryption technologies to ensure your data remains protected.

8.    What is the "To do" list?

Once you have registered you will find helpful suggestions on the start page, designed to help you organize your iProbook profile in the best way possible. You will also be notified here if you have new messages in your inbox or new contacts to confirm.

Members

9.    How does the search for members work?

The Search box in the upper right-hand corner of every iProbook page is a keyword search. All terms you enter there will be compared with every profile field and matches will be returned. The profiles returned are precisely those profiles which contain the terms you searched for. If you're looking for a specific phrase (more than one word), you should enclose the phrase in quotation marks (e.g., "key account manager"). That way youοΏ½ll only see profiles which contain precisely this phrase.
Using the Advanced Search feature at "Members", you can search in specific categories, such as Last name, Current Company, City (business), Person wants and Person has. You can also combine a search for specific keywords with a search in specific categories.
The Advanced Search feature also allows you to limit or expand the range of your search. For example, you can search the entire iProbook page, or you can limit results to your language, or even just search the contacts of your contacts. As with the Search box, the Advanced Search scans for all terms you enter. In effect, this means that if you enter four search criteria, and a profile contains only three of these four, it will not appear in the search results. There are several ways to modify your search criteria:

Searching with quotation marks: Use quotation marks to find a precise combination of words. For example, "Key Account Manager" will only return profiles that contain these three words in exactly this order.

Searching with OR: If you enter "OR" (in capital letters) between two search terms, you'll receive all profiles that contain at least one of the words. At top, those profiles that match both terms will be displayed. If OR is not entered between the terms, only profiles matching both of the terms will be displayed.

Searching with a minus: Let's say you would like to find all members named Rajesh who work in Delhi, but wish to exclude those who include 'Internet' in the Industry field. Simply type "-Internet" (without quotes) in the Industry field. A minus search is only possible if you enter at least one additional search parameter.

Search by ZIP code area: Simply enter the first three digit of the ZIP code area you're looking for, followed by an asterisk (*) and the search will return all members who have entered a business address within this ZIP code area.

Search by word beginnings: You can search by the beginnings of words in all fields except the keyword search. Simply enter the first three letters of the term you're looking for, followed by an asterisk (*).

The search results are sorted by relevancy, and are also influenced by the quality of a profile. This means that if all other factors are the same, a complete, comprehensive profile will appear higher in the results list than a less complete or comprehensive profile.

10.    What is the iProbook Search feature?

Use the iProbook Search feature to find various groups of members in order to help you achieve your goal in a shorter space of time. The iProbook Search feature is available to all Premium Members. It features various search options such as the search for colleagues/ex-colleagues, members from the same university or members who recently visited your profile. And all that at the click of a button!

Inbox/Outbox

11.    How can I modify my settings on receiving iProbook notification emails?

There are various notification settings which you can change on the "Start β†’ Settings β†’ Notifications" page. Here you can decide, for example, whether you would like to be notified by email if somebody sends you a private message via iProbook, adds you as a contact, or makes an entry in your guestbook. You can also decide whether you would like to receive emails regarding your Marketplace account and your active offers, and whether you would like to receive an iProbook newsletter informing you about special offers and interesting product features, and whether you would like to receive newsletters from your groups. Finally, you can decide whether the emails should be sent in HTML format or simple text format.

12.    Can I send messages to several people at once?

It is not possible to send messages to several people at once as a matter of principle. Please bear in mind that iProbook is intended as a platform for personal networking which ensures that members communicate with one another on an individual and personal level.

Groups

13.    How do I join a group?

If you've found a group you'd like to join, just click on the "Join now!" button on the "About this group" page. Some groups request that you enter a reason for joining, after which you can be approved by the group moderators.

You can also use the group search function to find groups that match your interests.

14.    How can I invite members to join my group?

You can invite your contacts, other iProbook members and even people who are not yet registered on iProbook to join groups. There are three ways to do this:
  • Go to the profile of the person you would like to invite and click on the link "Invite to this group".
  • Go to the group you would like to invite the person to join and click on the link "Invite to this group".
  • Go to the "Groups" section and click on the "Group Invitations" tab.

You have the option of personalizing the message in the invitation form. A link to the group is automatically added to the message. When you invite a person from their profile page, they will receive the standard invitation.

Note: No invitations will be sent to people who are already members of the group. In addition, you cannot invite a person to join the same group more than once in a six-month period.

15.    How can I search for members within a group?

You have two possibilities for searching for members of your group: You can click on the "Members List" tab, choose "sort alphabetically" on the drop down menu on the upper-right hand side of the screen and browse the list. Or you can search your group using the search box on your group's start page. Basic members can search for group members by first and last name, city or industry. Premium Members can additionally use the expanded iProbook search options to search for members within a group.

Events

16.    How can I search for events?

You can search for events by using the various filters available. For example, you can search for all events taking place in Delhi or, in a more detailed search, you can find out about events in your local city.

17.    How can I create a new event?

Decide first of all which type of event you would like to create. Is it a private or a public event, a calendar note? Fill out the required information in the form.

If the event is affiliated with a particular group and you are the moderator, you can select this option in the following step. You can also enter the name of another organizer here.

Events can also be given a deadline so that participants will be unable to change their attendance status after this date. You can edit events at a later stage, invite more people or write a mailing to all participants. Public events can be moved by the organizer to another category. All events can be canceled at any time. Please provide participants with the reason for cancellation in this case.

Marketplace

18.    What is Marketplace?

iProbook Marketplace is a market for offers, which is currently limited to new job openings. iProbook members can post and find offers here. Job listings can also be found by non-members via search engines, if so desired. What makes Marketplace different from other job sites? Connection paths mean that members are able to see, when viewing listings, how they are personally connected via their personal network to the person posting the job opening. Automatic profile matching also means that job offers which are relevant to your line of work and experience are displayed on your iProbook start page and your Marketplace start page.

19.    What advantages do Marketplace offers have over job vacancies posted on traditional job portals?

The fact that the offers are combined with links to posters'contact network and profile information means that Marketplace provides you with a number of advantages:
  • When responding to the employer or recruiter you can refer to your connection path, revealing which contacts you might both be connected with.
  • You can make contact with the poster more easily and on a more personal note due to the fact that you can view their profile information.
  • You can view other connections to the company that is advertising the vacant position.
  • You receive job offers that might be of interest to you, based on the information you have entered in your profile.

20.    How are job offers matched with my profile?

An algorithm automatically compares the information in your profile with the data in Marketplace offers and determines which offers might be of interest to you. This is carried out on the basis of your profile entries such as the information in the "Haves" and "Wants" fields, your "Current position" or "Industry". If there is a certain degree of correlation, a job posting will be suggested as one that might be of interest to you.
